Let me start off by saying, thank you for tuning into my blog! I know I have not posted anything recently (life got a little crazy) but I will try to post more often!
So regarding my first post, I asked the question "Have you had the experience of someone who mentioned something about a certain artist or group (you actually take the time to go and research) and you find out that you absolutely love the art this artist or group created?"
I had a good friend who suggested to listen to this specific artist for her talented voice. Boy do I thank her for her suggestion! I found one of my new favorite artists! This incredibly talented singer was placed in the top three for the 10th season of American Idol. Haley Reinhart's was eliminated from the show, but that was not about to stop her!
Haley was signed to 19 Entertainment and Interscope Records. In November 2012 she left Interscope Records but stayed with 19 Entertainment. On May 22, 2012, her debut album "Listen Up!" was released! Listen Up! debuted at number 17 in the Billboard 200 with over 20,000 sold copies. The first single released was "Free," produced by Michael James Ryan Busbee. Below is the music video for "Free." I say check it out!
Let me know what your opinions are of the talented artist Haley Reinhart!
I honestly never expected you to listen to this type of music. I remember years ago, you were into bands like Alesana and Blessedthefall. Its not bad by any means. Though its not neccessarily my type of music. But each to their own. Its good to see you posting blogs.
ReplyDeleteMy music tastes have changed but in the way of expanding to other genres. Otherwise alternative music is still my all time favorite style. Over the years I have studied and observed today's music on how musicians incorporate music styles from history or opposite genres. I find it rather ingenious to make new music for today's average listener while using old school elements.
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of this artist and I don't watch American Idol, but I really like her voice! It's so natural and sweet. It's a breath of fresh air to listen to something that relies on the singing talent of the artist and doesn't cover their voice with auto-tune or rely mostly on a catchy dance beat to make the song interesting.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, Karla "discovered" Marina and the Diamonds over the summer. She told me about Marina's latest album and the concept behind it, so I listened to it and I really like it. It's not what I usually listen to, but the lyrics and the concept behind the album, which is a character the artist created called "Electra Heart", makes the album for me. It sounds very mainstream but I feel it has more depth to it than most songs you hear on the radio nowadays. Most of the sad songs (like "Lies", "Buy the Stars", and "Starring Role") on the album are based on the artist's own experiences with past relationship and the lyrics are very powerful and heartfelt. The other more upbeat songs are inspired by Marina's alleged obsession with American pop culture. "The State of Dreaming" is about Marilyn Monroe. Others like "Sex Yeah", "Primadonna", and "Teen Idle" are commentaries on female gender roles, which Electra Heart kind of embodies. Also, she has an awesome voice and sounds great live. If you check her out, let me know what you think! :)
